South African Afro-House duo Black Motion are set to release a high-energy remix of New York-based R&B singer Lisa Ramey’s hit track ‘Better Than That’ on December 5, 2025, via Lisa Ramey Music. Known for their powerful percussion and signature African rhythms, the duo—formed in 2010 by Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane and Bongani “Murdah Bongz” Mohosana, now joined by Kabelo “Problem Child Ten83” Koma—have released music on major labels like Defected Records and earned multiple South African Music Awards, including Best Duo/Group of the Year. Their LP Fortune Teller went Gold, Ya Badimo achieved Platinum and Best Dance Album honors, and their 2024 release The Cradle of Art received four SAMA31 nominations. The trio has also performed on NPR Tiny Desk (Home), solidifying their status as one of South Africa’s most influential dance acts.

Lisa Ramey first captured national attention as a finalist on NBC’s The Voice, performing on Team Legend, and further rose to prominence touring the U.S. as one of seven female vocalists with Zayn Malik, coverage featured across Daily Mail, Yahoo News, Buzzfeed, and more. Her debut album Surrender (2020) reached #34 on Good Morning America’s Top 50 Albums of 2020, while her participation in the Global Citizen “Together at Home” concert placed her alongside icons like John Legend, Camilla Cabello, and Common.

Better Than That’ comes from Lisa’s 2024 EP Foretaste, which has amassed over 665,000 Spotify streams. Produced by three-time GRAMMY-nominated Joe Capo Kent, mixed by Sam Maul of Shock City Studios, and mastered by Glenn Schick, the track blends cinematic production with lush instrumentation and intricate percussion, while Ramey delivers soaring, emotive vocals exploring a relationship’s decline.

In their Afro-House remix, Black Motion transforms the song into a hypnotic, dancefloor-ready experience, retaining the soulful power of Ramey’s original performance while layering percussive-focused instrumentation, reverb-soaked vocal splices, and kinetic grooves. Fans of Shimza, Black Coffee, and Culoe De Song will find a familiar energy and rhythm throughout the track.

Black Motion commented:
“When the challenge came to remix Lisa Ramey’s ‘Better Than That’, we were all in. We wanted to bring our own touch and feel to the song, giving her audience a taste of the South African vibe. With Spice Drums adding his signature feel, we hope people feel the same energy and joy we felt while creating it.”

The remix promises to be a seamless fusion of soulful R&B and Afro-House mastery, marking another standout moment in the careers of both Black Motion and Lisa Ramey.
