Two boundary-pushing bass innovators, Sharlitz Web and Jessy Covets, unite on “Queen of the Dark”, a shadowy fusion of deep dubstep, electro-funk, and noir-inspired soul. Out October 31st via Bassrush Records, the single merges two fearless creatives working at the outer edges of electronic sound.
Born in Chicago and now based in Arizona, Sharlitz Web has carved her own corner in experimental dubstep—a venomous, hypnotic sound marked by supernatural tension and cinematic darkness. Jessy Covets, a Queens-raised, LA-based vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, brings a contrasting alchemy, spanning melodic bass, house, and cinematic electronic pop. Together, they create a sound that feels entirely otherworldly.
“Queen of the Dark” opens with stirring strings and jazz-inflected percussion, setting the stage for Covets’ sultry, noir-inspired vocals—a spellbinding narrative of seduction and danger. Hip-hop-inflected drums give way to deep, wubbing basslines that pulse with old-school dubstep grit. Swinging rhythms and spectral melodies spiral through the mix, embodying the title’s essence: powerful, elusive, untouchable.
Reflecting on the track, Sharlitz Web explains: “‘Queen of the Dark’ came from the desire to merge light and shadow—to make something soulful that still honors the mysterious side of ourselves. I tried to produce it like a spell, channeling the timeless soul of Nina Simone. It’s inspired by a story of two strange souls that fall in love under a blood moon, only to discover that the darkness they feared was the truth that set them free.”
Jessy Covets adds: “‘Queen of the Dark’ represents the dual nature within all of us. It’s like the balance of yin and yang; light and shadow. The message is that even in your darkest corners, your true love, your purpose, and your people will still find and love you, not despite your flaws, but because of them.”
The release follows Sharlitz Web’s prior Bassrush appearance with “Capoz Web,” her collaboration with Capochino from The Prophecy 11 compilation, earning support from Skope Mag, Find Your Sounds, Dub Rebellion, and Jungle Drum and Bass. She’s also collaborated with Shanghai Doom, AG, remixed Ahee, FuntCase, Jaenga, and Ravenscoon, and maintains a formidable live presence at festivals like Apocalypse Zombieland, Eternal NYE, Fright Night, and Riot Ten’s Dubstep Party in Houston.
For Jessy Covets, “Queen of the Dark” adds another dimension to a career defined by range and reinvention, with collaborations including Steller, Buku, Ravenscoon, Sully, and Dabow, as well as sync placements across HBO, Netflix, and Paramount+.
By fusing their distinct sonic worlds, Sharlitz Web and Jessy Covets deliver a genre-defying collaboration that reinforces Bassrush Records’ position as a home for forward-thinking bass music.
Sharlitz Web and Jessy Covets’ new single “Queen of the Dark” is available now on all platforms via Bassrush Records.
