“We first met Honey & Badger during the chaos of a Miami Music Week party in 2024,” share the LA-based duo NIIKO X SWAE. “A few months later, he flew out from Brussels to Los Angeles and hit us up for a studio session. It was our first real time hanging out together, and it naturally took a minute to land on the right idea. After bouncing ideas back and forth, Honey & Badger pulled up a vocal sample from the early ’90s with raw, nostalgic rave energy. The production followed with heavy rave stabs and fat-sounding drums, paying homage to the era of the original track. That one clicked instantly, and the track was essentially finished in one sitting.”
Beyond the studio chemistry, the duo emphasize the connection forged that day: “The real magic came from the strong bond formed during this session. ‘Automatic’ takes us back to that unique moment where lifelong friendships are made—whether in the studio or on the dancefloor.”
NIIKO X SWAE have been on a tear through the Dim Mak catalog in 2025 with singles like “Drop It Low” and “International Party Girl”, both tracks blending progressive energy with nostalgic undertones. “Automatic” carries that same duality, pulling inspiration from the ’90s rave era while sounding right at home in 2025.
