Rob Tirea, the Los Angeles-based producer, songwriter, and artist, unveils his most personal and ambitious project to date with the release of his new EP, Universal Jest. A four-track odyssey through themes of love, loss, existential humor, and the strange beauty of human existence, the EP marks a creative high point for the genre-blending artist.

Fusing elements of Alternative Dance, Rock, and Indie Pop, Universal Jest showcases Tirea’s signature style—haunting vocals, immersive storytelling, and a striking balance of electronic innovation and organic instrumentation. Described by Tirea as “a punch to the gut wrapped in a smile,” the EP offers a raw, unfiltered look at life’s contradictions. “The world is loud, messy, and unapologetic,” he shares. “And I’m here to make sure you’re on the ride with me.”

Each track unfolds as a distinct emotional chapter. Give Me Love Give Me Light opens with a longing cry for connection, described as “a sonic exploration of life’s contradictions.” There You Are dives into cosmic disorientation and comfort, capturing the surreal comedy of existence. She Wants A Nobody delivers an achingly vulnerable portrait of romantic disillusionment, while closing track “How Do I Love You Anymore” explores the painful realization that not all love survives, no matter how genuine.

Elevating the release is a live performance video that reimagines the EP with lush string arrangements by Nicole Garcia and Michelle Rearick of Fine Line Music Service. Filmed in a Downtown Los Angeles studio by visual artist Jackie Catechis—whose past work includes Coachella, CRSSD, Skyline Festival, and artists like Flight Facilities—the project offers an intimate, cinematic experience of the EP’s emotional depth.

Both Garcia and Rearick bring heavyweight credits to the production. Garcia, who recently performed with Lady Gaga at Coachella 2025 and on her 2024 album Harlequin, has worked with Reggie Watts, Elton John, Michael Bublé, Michael Jackson, and Rod Stewart. Rearick’s credits include contributions to the scores for Tenet, The Lion King, and Vampire Weekend’s Only God Was Above Us, as well as John Legend’s Strawberry Blush.

The EP has already drawn attention across the electronic and alternative music scenes, with features on Apple Music’s Late Night Drive, New In Dance, and SoundCloud’s EDM Next Level Up playlists. Coverage from outlets like Mixmag, FAULT Magazine, Magnetic Magazine, This Song Is Sick, EARMILK, F WORD, and 1001Tracklists has helped elevate Universal Jest into one of Tirea’s most visible releases to date. The single “Only Luck” became a standout hit on SiriusXM Chill, ranking among its most played tracks in early 2025.

With over 16 million career streams and collaborations alongside GRAMMY-nominated producers like Andrew Bayer (Ophelia Records) and Lipless (Thrive/Virgin Music), Tirea continues to push boundaries. His writing and production work spans artists from 88rising’s Stephanie Poetri to HOLLY, WIWEK, and Justin Hayward Young of The Vaccines.

Universal Jest solidifies Rob Tirea as an artist unafraid to confront the complexities of the human condition. With a sonic palette that’s as emotionally resonant as it is sonically adventurous, he’s carving a lane for alternative electronic music that’s deeply reflective and boldly expressive.

Stream Universal Jest now and experience the accompanying live performance video for an intimate look at one of 2025’s most thought-provoking electronic releases.
