Montreal-based bass visionary borne makes a thunderous return to NIGHTMODE with his new single “Hold Me Down,” dropping June 6. It’s his second release on the label this year and a sharp reminder of why he’s considered one of Canada’s most cutting-edge producers in the 140 dubstep scene.
Opening with eerie organ chords and a looping, soul-tinged vocal, “Hold Me Down” wastes no time shifting from introspective to incendiary. The track erupts into a gritty barrage of snarling subs, minimalist percussion, and relentless low-end power—balancing the roots of UK dubstep with modern precision. It’s a slow-burning tension bomb, showcasing borne’s mastery of stripped-back sound design and emotionally charged atmospheres.
“‘Hold Me Down’ is my take on the more stripped-down and flow-heavy 140 dubstep tracks,” says borne. “I was inspired by OG Dubstep and wanted to put a soul feel in the intro to give a fresh take on a timeless style.”
This release follows the success of “Go Again,” which earned support from Billboard, UKF, EDM.com, and tastemakers like Don Diablo, Curtis Jay, and Judge Jules. As borne gears up for bookings at Illfest, Shambhala, and Hulaween, his rise through the global bass music ranks shows no signs of slowing down.
On the streaming front, borne continues to build serious momentum with placements in top editorial playlists such as Spotify’s Sub Low, Dubstep Don, and UK Bass Music, as well as Apple Music’s Breaking Dance and Heavy Hitters. He’s also gained recognition across Beatport charts and was featured in SoundCloud’s New Bass Heat series.
With “Hold Me Down,” borne doubles down on his distinct approach—favoring tension, control, and sub-driven finesse over flashy excess. It’s a calculated and crushing addition to his catalog, reaffirming his status as one of bass music’s most promising forces.
“Hold Me Down” is available now on all platforms via NIGHTMODE.
