Chinese-American powerhouse HELANG continues her meteoric rise with the release of her most dynamic work to date, the ‘Flashback’ EP, arriving March 6 via HE.SHE.THEY. Records. This three-track collection, accompanied by club edits, showcases HELANG’s unfiltered approach to house and techno while celebrating artistic freedom and self-expression.
The EP’s title track, “Flashback,” sets an immediate tone with groove-driven energy and hypnotic textures, creating an immersive late-night experience. “The Artist in Me” follows with a rebellious, acid-tinged signature, built around a relentless bassline and the introspective vocal mantra: “Being an artist, being me – that’s my best excuse to be crazy.” Closing out the EP, “On My Own” delivers an emotionally charged journey that balances raw intensity with atmospheric depth, encapsulating HELANG’s distinctive blend of house and techno.
Reflecting on the project, HELANG shares, “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve found it difficult to follow rules, be micromanaged, conform to trends—the list goes on. Most of the time, when writing music, all I can do is think about how to channel that energy into my craft. Personally, I just want my music to convey this message to my audience: it’s okay to live your life on your own terms and not how society tells you to. When playing around with the sound designs in this particular EP, I found a great balance between euphoria and melancholy, which is demonstrated in the vocals and synths. To me, this is the beauty of music—to feel the feels: the good and the bad. It all goes back around to just expressing oneself in the most genuine and authentic way.”
The release follows a string of high-profile performances, including standout appearances at E1, Teksupport NYE, Brooklyn Storehouse, and Echostage DC. Over the past year, HELANG has shared stages with industry titans such as Amelie Lens, Nicole Moudaber, Adam Beyer, and Eric Prydz, while her uncompromising productions continue to earn support from electronic music’s elite, including Maceo Plex, Marco Faraone, Richie Hawtin, and Joseph Capriati.
Since launching her own imprint, Dauntless Records, in 2023, HELANG has maintained full creative control while pushing the boundaries of electronic music. Her fearless approach to production and performance has captured the attention of influential media outlets, including DJ Mag, Forbes, Beatportal, and YourEDM. Most recently, she hosted the second Dauntless Records showcase at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere on the first day of Women’s History Month.
