Portland’s own psychedelic gaze-wave band, Sun Atoms, is set to release their highly anticipated second album, Everything Forever, on November 8 via Little Cloud Records. This cosmic opus delivers on the promise of their debut, drawing listeners into a deeply resonant journey that transcends just the auditory and connects with the heart.
Sun Atoms is led by vocalist Jsun Atoms (of The Upsidedown and Daydream Machine) alongside producer and bassist Peter G. Holmström (of The Dandy Warhols and Pete International Airport), multi-instrumentalist June Kang, saxophonist-trumpeter-guitarist Mars de Ponte (LoveBomb Go-Go), drummer Eric Rubalcava, and guitarist Derek Spencer Longoria-Gomez (Hi Hazel). The band’s sound is enhanced with guest contributions from notable artists, including Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, Jasno Swarez of The Vandelles, and Lauren Andino of Tremours.
The album was crafted at Stone Circles Studios near Avebury Henge in the UK, where Holmström and legendary mixing engineer Jagz Kooner (known for work with Bjork, The Chemical Brothers, and Primal Scream) pushed sonic boundaries. The project was mastered by Keith Tenniswood (Spiritualized, Death in Vegas) at Curve Pusher in the UK, adding yet another layer of expertise to this release.
Sun Atoms recently released the video for “Narco Polo,” featuring Isaac Brock, which frontman Jsun Atoms describes as a “dada ice cream party inside a Salvador Dali painting.” Earlier in 2024, the band dropped singles like “Ceiling Tiles,” the Leonard Cohen-inspired “Tower of Song (in the key of JAMC),” and the psychedelic track “Take This Love” with B-side “And The Lion Saw The UFO.”
Their genre-defying debut album Let There Be Light (2021) featured collaborations with Alex Maas of The Black Angels, Jasno Swarez from The Vandelles, and Gregg Williams (noted for his work with Sheryl Crow and Blitzen Trapper). Since then, Sun Atoms has toured with acts like Modest Mouse, Dinosaur Jr., Federale, The Veldt, and New Candys, and shared stages with the likes of Ty Segall, A Place to Bury Strangers, Neko Case, and Built to Spill.
Starting November 8, Everything Forever will be available on Apple Music, Spotify, Bandcamp, and in vinyl format through Little Cloud Records. Sun Atoms will perform several upcoming shows in Portland and Seattle, including a notable appearance at The Dandy Warhols’ 30th Anniversary show in Portland on December 11.
