Rising Latinx artist Michi has just dropped her latest single, “There’s No Heaven,” marking the second release from her upcoming debut album, set for a 2025 release via Stones Throw. In this soulful, classic house-inspired track, Michi sings with vulnerability about rekindling a lost love. The track’s atmospheric video, directed by Mitch deQuilettes (known for work with Childish Gambino and TOKiMONSTA), captures Michi at a house party in Northeast L.A., where she unexpectedly realizes she isn’t as alone as she feels.
Reflecting on the single, Michi shares, “This song feels like a burst of aqua blue, a sweaty dancefloor, ice dripping down your skin, tears.” The track was recorded late at night in a studio in Joshua Tree, where Michi recalls visualizing scenes of fleeting yet intense moments on the dance floor and passing by a lover in a crowded room. “There’s No Heaven” was co-produced by Blake Rhein (from Durand Jones & The Indications) and Paul Cherry, both of whom helped shape Michi’s shift toward a warmer, more heartfelt sound.
Following a move from L.A. to a quiet seaside town in 2023, Michi began developing a sound true to her experiences, a step away from her earlier pop style. The recent singles, including “If You Want Me” and “There’s No Heaven,” highlight Michi’s artistic growth as she embraces soulful, resonant melodies that better reflect her journey.
