Following the raucously successful debut of Dirtybird CampINN, the tech-house label’s flagship festival – Dirtybird Campout – will return October 15-17 with all the eggs-travagant summer camp shenanigans that make this event so unique, alongside a lineup to write home about.
Dirtybird staples this year consist of labelhead Claude VonStroke (and his alter ego Barclay Crenshaw), Ardalan, Justin Jay, Sacha Robotti, Steve Darko, VNSSA, Worthy, and Walker & Royce. Catz ‘N Dogz, Codes, Cour T., Gene Farris, Kevin Knapp, Lubelski, Nala, Robot Love, Rodriguez Jr., SHADED, Subset, Tiga and Wyatt Marshall are among the Dirtybird alums, collaborators and up-and-comers filling out the roster.
Other featured artists bringing their distinct styles to Campout include Boys Noize (German electro), Carl Craig (old-school Detroit techno), Damian Lazarus (soulful deep house), Ivy Lab (experimental bass), Jacques Greene (ambient house), Planet of the Drums (drum and bass) and Yheti (low-end experimental bass). Classic hip-hop even rounds out the menu with DJ Jazzy Jeff, Digable Planets and Sir Mix-A-Lot.
Taking place at the Modesto Reservoir Campgrounds (about two hours east of San Francisco), Dirtybird Campout curates over 60 field games and activities during its weekend of music. They range from dodgeball, archery and floatie races to madcap bingo, a wild scavenger hunt and a ridiculous, original game show. The DJs serve as camp counselors, joining the competitive fun alongside campers, with Papa Claude attending or participating in virtually everything on the schedule.
Whether you’re a Dirtybird diehard or just love experience-driven festivals, Campout stands unparalleled in the pantheon of music fests and I can’t recommend the goofy, groovy, playful vibes here enough. Tickets start at $329 for a 3-day GA pass, $529 for a VIB (Very Important Bird) 3-day pass, $69 for a Thursday arrival/Damian Lazarus pre-party pass, and $119 for a vehicle pass.
