Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 10th year anniversary of EDC Las Vegas had to be rescheduled to October. Ravers were heartbroken. We all knew it was coming, but it didn’t make it hurt any less. The pandemic has taken so much away from our community already. Headliners everywhere screamed with happiness when Insomniac then announced that they would be hosting a virtual livestream on the original weekend that EDC Las Vegas 2020 was supposed to happen. We have a festival to attend again, even if from the comfort of our home couches.
While we’re all angry we aren’t jet setting Vegas right now is real, the lineup for the Rave-A-Thon event soothes the sting. There are acts for every type of Electronic Dance Music fanatic. If you’re into some heavy Bass acts, you can headbang to Subtronics and SVDDEN DEATH Presents VOYD. If you need something to shuffle too, you can tune into Maala, Tchami, and Oliver Heldens. Seven Lions, Zeds Dead, David Guetta, and Zhu are also making an appearance. Pasquale Rotella did not mess around.
Better yet, during the livestream Insomniac will voluntarily collect donations to Rave Recovery, a relief fund that specifically benefits dance music fans affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, they’ll support In Place of War’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund, which allocates resources to vulnerable communities in the global south. You can choose to donate ahead of time.
Rotella said it was important for the live stream to also be used for good. On the Insomniac YouTube, Rotella wrote: “Looking out for one another and giving back have been cornerstones of rave culture since people first set foot on the dance floor. With so many experiencing hardships brought on by COVID-19, those principles are more important than ever. Even though we’re isolated, no one should feel alone. Rave Recovery was created to support fans within our dance music community who need assistance—and hopefully inspire others to reach out, connect, and give back.”
Bringing beats from 5 pm-2 am PST, the EDC Las Vegas live stream will take place on May 15th-17th on their Twitch and YouTube channels. For more information, make sure to check back on the EDC Las Vegas website.
