Even though this track was written before the current COVID-19 outbreak, “Introspective” still provides a prescient message that is desperately needed. A collab between Chris Lorenzo and Bru-C, this atmospheric Drum and Bass track summons an emotional spirit against a simple, yet capturing, melodic beat. With lyrics like “a weak mind that’s carrying these strong thoughts,” it is a song I relate to on so many levels.
“Introspective” had its radio premiere earlier this month as part of Annie Mac’s Self-Isolation Creations feature and to great acclaim. Lorenzo and Bru-C had been talking for quite a while on creating something together. After producing the beat, Lorenzo sent the track to Bru-C and was surprised to find a response 24 hours later outlining his vision for the track. Bru-C recounts that the lyrics poured out of him as soon as he heard the music.
The music video for this single emphasizes the need for connection during a time of social-distancing. While it is a simple idea, cuts of individuals singing or exemplifying the lyrics, it adds to the overall undertone of hope that Lorenzo and Bru-C are trying to create. Even though life has changed, it goes on and we must too.
These U.K. locals have donated all proceeds from the single’s iTunes presale to Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). CALM is an England-based charity whose focus is on suicide prevention, which is the single biggest killer of males under the age of 45 in the U.K. During a time where it becomes easy to lose yourself within the four walls of your home, it is important to know that help is available. CALM offers a free hotline and web chat that is available 7 hours a day, 7 days a week.
