Quarantine Got Us Missing Crushed Toes and Bathing in Wook Sweat

by The Freaks - Staff

With not much else to do, I’ve been thinking back on the times when we used to rave. It’s become a thing of the past at this point, and I honestly couldn’t tell you the last time I attended one. All I’m left with are photographs, colorful bracelets, and whatever memories I’ve been able to hold on to. I’ve tried that new thing they came out with called a live stream, and it’s just not the same. I miss the lights blinding me while I’m heading to the bar for a drink, mixtures of unidentified essential oils intruding my nostrils, and I’ve been seriously craving a good shoulder to my rib cage for months now. Unsure of when or if we’ll ever be able to return to those beautiful times, I can’t help but feel a bit under the weather… and no I don’t have COVID-19.

There are a few pros coming out of this pandemic for me, but they definitely don’t outweigh the cons. I’ve become really good at staying updated with the hottest new shows on Netflix and my stress is lower than it’s been in years due to living life at the bare minimum. Most importantly, we’re all saving a lot of money and should keep in mind that when we finally do return to the dance floor, it will feel well worth the wait. I’m not sure if I know how to dress fashionably anymore and I can care less about how my hair looks in my house. The big question we’re all wondering though is when will we be able to dance freely and break laws without care again? It seems like it’s been an eternity and I’m not sure how much longer I can survive without the electrolytes I crave from other people’s sweat rubbing against my skin.

These events are the only things that genuinely helped me escape my depressing life for a time, and now I’m stuck looking at myself in the mirror since there’s nowhere to run. I’m usually fine until the weekend rolls around because I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed when I see event reminders pop up on my Facebook. So what can we do about not knowing when will be the next time we rave? For one, we can cry about not being able to see Bassnectar at the Forest for the eighth time and protest in public with happy balloons, but that probably won’t do much good for the situation (or your brain). We can also throw a temper tantrum about not being able to pop a pill in Ibiza, just to show Avicii how cool we are. However, our best bet for our mental health and for the quarantine season to end is to sit tight and listen to something chill.

For most of us, it seems like the life we once enjoyed has been stripped away from us. Before we entered the rave scene, most of us had other hobbies we enjoyed that we’ve left behind in exchange for loud music and frickin’ laser beams. Perhaps it’s time to revisit those hobbies or even pick up new ones! Let’s work on bettering ourselves and be patient while we wait to make America rave again! Take this time to prepare your body for when the first festival comes around and work on aligning your chakras with the power of healing crystals.
