Hydraulix And Ookay Weave Artistry On “Poor Connection”

by The Freaks - Staff

WAKAAN is dedicated to bringing its listeners genuine, boundary-pushing Bass like nothing we’ve ever heard. From artists whose skills surpass labeling to artists who diverge down a path that no one has taken before; Liquid Stranger’s collective of artists are as unique and multi-talented as the man himself. Each collaboration that WAKAAN releases is an eccentric merge of two friends that creates a one-of-a-kind creation. This time around, WAKAAN summons Hydraulix and Ookay to weave their artistry to create “Poor Connection”.

Sydney-based producer Hydraulix has quickly made a home for himself at WAKAAN, joining Liquid Stranger on his ASCENSION tour and EP with the eerie, wobbly track “Laser Burn”. Being raised on an affinity to Hip-Hop imprints like DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, and Pete Rock, the master bass manipulator has deep roots in old school Hip-Hop and sound design. Hydraulix’s production brilliance translates to an explosive live performance gaining him praise from dance music arbiters like Insomniac, ThisSongIsSick, and The Industry Observer. Hydraulix was recently recruited by Netflix’s new show Kipo And The Age Of The Wonderbeasts, with talent that transcends dance music he is expanding his influence on pop-culture beyond the mainstage.

An artist like Ookay thrives in our current fuck-a-genre status of dance music. Artists are no longer encouraged to pick a sound and stick to it. In fact, labels like WAKAAN exist as a vessel for artists who want to create under the massive, ever-growing umbrella of Bass music. With a decade of experience, Ookay has crafted his unique, malleable style that has taken him to Dim Mak, Spinnin’ Records, Coachella, and collaborations with industry giants such as Marshmello and Noah Cyrus.

“Poor Connection” illustrates WAKAAN’s core values, the beauty of artistic allyship and the freedom to get weird with it. The track awakens with a jolting alarm and an electric hook that plunges into glitchy synths and a droning bassline. “Poor Connection” is another victory for WAKAAN that is filled to the brim with unmistakable spunk. Check out Hydralix and Ookay’s “Poor Connection” below and be sure to catch these Bass wizards near you ASAP.
