Seemingly out of nowhere, Porter Robinson dropped that he was to release his sophomore album, “Nurture”, sometime in 2020. Even better, the first track was coming out the very next day. This news sent Porter fans into a tailspin, given it’s been nearly six years since the critically-acclaimed “Worlds” (2014) album was released.
“Get Your Wish” dropped on January 29th along with an official music video, and it’s leaving us all begging for more. It features those striking instrumentals we have come to love from Porter, along with illuminating synths and catchy lyrics. In a tweet, the 27-year-old artist explained the story behind the song. He hoped listeners would be inspired to “keep moving forward, even if it’s not for your own sake.”
“I was doing really badly in 2015, 2016, and early 2017. My entire life revolved around making music, but for the first time in my life, I was struggling to make anything at all. I was desperate to make something I was proud of, but the more I struggled, the worse the problem became. I was very seriously depressed and genuinely thought my life as I knew it was over.”

Fans weren’t the only ones that started freaking out. Top EDM artists have been celebrating Porter’s much-anticipated return. Fellow producers San Holo, Rezz, Illenium, G Jones, Robotaki and more all responded in the comments of Robinson’s announcement screaming with just as much excitement as the public had.
Porter has become a household name in the EDM industry and for good reason. He’s a self-taught producer that quickly shot up to the #1 spot on Billboards Dance/Electronic chart upon the release of the 12-track, hour-long “Worlds” LP. He stayed relevant in the scene through various mediums since then, including curating his own music festival Second Sky in 2019.
The North Carolina-native developed the side project Virtual Self in 2017, which he performed under at festivals like EDC and Bonnaroo. In 2019, the track “Ghost Voices” from the alter-ego was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. While he didn’t win, Porter was elated to be considered. In a statement to Billboard Dance, he said “I was ecstatic, to be honest…I just never once considered it as a real possibility at all…something about how vastly it exceeded my expectations…It was really gratifying.”
Porter recently announced a collaboration between Virtual Self and the high-end Japanese brand, Chloma. Together they designed a five-piece collection that included a t-shirt, parka and more that ranged in price from $150 to $550. The clothing line, called “Human-Error:LAMENT”, will take all of Porter’s profits and donate it to his charity, the Robinson Malawi Fund. The fund is partnered with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and will “direct patient care for pediatric and adolescent lymphoma in Malawi.”
While we don’t have a date yet for when the “Nurture” album will be released, rumors about the album are spreading like wildfire. We just hope this means the album is coming sooner rather than later. You can watch the official music video for the debut track below while you wait.
