It’s no secret the excitement of Electric Forest being welcomed back to the small town of Rothbury, MI is thrilling. Rothbury Festival started in 2008 with a handful of Jam and Rock bands and evolved into a mystical spectacle embracing many genres but with a spotlight on Electronic Dance Music. In its first two years, Rothbury featured artists like 311, The Dead, Willie Nelson and Family, and Les Claypool. Rothbury Festival took 2010 off and was reborn in the summer of 2011 as Electric Forest. Looking at the lineup, it’s obvious the curators are going back to their instrumental roots in 2020 while keeping the heavy electronic spirit alive.
Taking a look into the lineup of Decade One Electric Forest 2020 we see that it is taking us on a magical, musical journey. To me, one of the beauties of Electric Forest is the neverending multi-genre spread. Your ears can’t help but find something they love while getting lost in a magical forest that tantalizes your inner child. Even if you are not familiar with the names listed, the collective can agree that wandering the forest and discovering new artists is key to opening our minds to the world of Sherwood. In addition to the resident headliners Bassnectar and The String Cheese Incident, we get to take a trip into our feelings with Flume in place of 2019’s Odesza. We also get two Diplo appearances, one as he himself, and another as Major Lazer, his popular collaboration project with Ape Drums and Walshy Fire.
Even more spectacular artists can be found in the second tier. Dubstep favorites 12th Planet, G Jones, Subtronics, and Zomboy are showing up to have us snappin’ necks. Tchami, The Black Madonna, and phenomenal British DJ and producer Duke Dumont will be reppin’ some of our House and Tech House grooves. Don’t miss that Lotus sunset band gathering or Moon Boots‘ jazzy live set. They will teleport you into a channel of vibes you will want to keep in a jar for life. Above all else, Lindsey Stirling should be marking your must-see setlists. She rarely makes festival appearances as her concerts are masterfully choreographed violin performances. Lindsey Stirling will leave you in awe and adoration for life.
For a fun and funky Bass House vibe, be sure to enjoy some time with French producer and DJ, Dombresky. Take a step through the self-proclaimed “transformational portal” with none other than LSDREAM. His music is like “the colors of the universe swirling around us as we dance with our friends, our hearts glowing, our minds ascending into the unreachable realms of inspiration and magic.” I look forward to the time spent with some personal favorite Dirtybird artists: VNSSA, and Justin Jay as he presents his fantastic voyage. A very fond memory from Electric Forest 2018 is jammin’ to some legendary Drum ‘n’ Bass by none other than Noisia from the top of the iconic forest Ferris wheel. I will get to experience this one last time as they are on their final tour as a group. Some honorable mentions from tier three are Denver based musical group Sunsqaubi, Holy Ghost!, Rusko, and Cashmere Cat.
Few package selections have sold out and we predict tickets will be almost (if not completely) sold out by end of tomorrow. With this being one of their biggest festivals in years, getting to the forest has never been more realistically achievable. Check out their many camping and lodging options HERE. Don’t fret if this is your first foray into the magic You have time to snag tickets and lodging options as general sales go live 10 AM Eastern on December 6.
