Kendoll says “Call Me Daddy” | #WCW

by The Freaks - Staff

As a Bass music lover, I began to wonder how many women DJs focus on my favorite genres: Bassline, UK Garage, Grime, and House. In the last year, I came across Miss Kendall Wyman, aka Kendoll, hailing from Seattle, Washington. My love for Kendoll has earned her a feature on our #WCW weekly segment spotlighting women DJs that are changing the industry as we know it.

Starting out with a taste for the wub sound, Kendoll became a Dubstep DJ at a mere 16 years old. She was introduced to tracks by AC Slater and began to include similar bassline sounds and bounce in her own work. Kendall relocated from Seattle to L.A. to study music production at ICON Collective, an online music production school that teaches technical skills that help unlock creative abilities to build unique producers.  Kendall spent her years at ICON mastering Ableton and trying to get signed by Night Bass Records. Petey Clicks noticed her efforts and became Kendall’s mentor to help her find her signature sound.

Kendoll has released numerous EPs and tracks in 2019 ALONE on various labels including Insomniac’s extension label In / Rotation Records, Pinnacle Collective, Dim Mak Records, and more. Her newest EP “Call me Daddy” was released November 12th and featured MNNR and Dread MC. Thanks to In / Rotation Records’ dedication to showcasing emerging artists that don’t fit the mold, these three tracks slap as they incorporate our favorite UK originating sounds and bless our ears with distinct new sounds.

A great example of her genre mashup would be my favorite track released in August 2019 on DND Recordings called “Wait a Minute”.  Kendoll is my pick for this week’s #WCW feature because she loves breaking technical rules and creating sounds that push the limits of what defines genres. From the moment I discovered her, I couldn’t help but adore her style and not to mention, she is cute as a button. If you find yourself in Seattle at the end of the year, be sure to hit up Resolution NYE so you can check out why this lady is such a gem. I can’t wait to see her soaring to new heights as she paves the way for new, authentic sounds from female DJs.
