Hot on the heels of her May-released single Actuary for OFF Recordings, one of the techno circuit’s most exciting talents, Simina Grigoriu, makes her long-awaited debut on Alan Fitzpatrick’s esteemed We Are The Brave imprint with her two-track Mental Warfare EP – out now across all streaming platforms.
The mammoth two tracker lands days after her electrifying performances at Docklands Festival and BigCityBeats’ World Club Dome, where both cuts received heavy support and powerful reactions from the crowds. Opening with the title track, Simina lays a heady foundation of dreamy soundscapes, crisp percussion and compelling melodies; a blissful collection of sound design elements that envelop the listener in 360-degree fashion. Created with ‘the journey’ in mind, Mental Warfare represents a more stripped back approach to Grigoriu’s production style, ebbing and flowing between its synth intricacies to intoxicating effect. The EP’s B-side Feed The Machine presents a grittier tone, characterised by its euphoric melodic dissonance and resonating kick drum.
The Kuukou Records label boss has delivered an impeccable stream of records over the last six months, returning to her staple electronic music houses with some of her best work to date. Ahead of her inaugural release for We Are The Brave, we were treated to a series of single releases for Rave The Planet, Kaligo Records, Dolma Records and Complex Textures, as well as her own Kuukou Records. Improving upon her rich vein of form with each passing year, Simina is entering into the upper echelons of dance music; a deserved feat for one of techno’s most devoted contributors.
