The best way to live life is in A State Of Trance and that is exactly what the trance family of Mexico did on Saturday, September 21st. Each artist on the lineup did exactly what they were there to do and lifted us higher to new heights.
The energy from the fans lifted us higher!
Fans were lined up outside the gates hours before the event. You could just tell that the energy inside the event was going to be out of this world. From the very beginning, both stages were full and the music was pumping. Spencer Brown did an excellent job getting the Main Stage warmed up with his progressive sound.
Ruben de Ronde was up next and he really brought the party to life playing several tracks off his recent album, ‘Different’. The ASOT radio show co-host definitely had us all dancing from the beginning straight through to the end of his set. After Ruben crushed his set, I wandered over to the Road To 1000 Stage for Luke Bond. This up and coming legend tore up the stage with absolute bangers and the crowd went wild when he dropped his track with Armin van Buuren, ‘Revolution’.
Come with me, follow me to the Main Stage for Cosmic Gate.
After a bit of Luke’s, I headed back to the Main Stage for my favorite DJ duo, Cosmic Gate. Even though I’ve seen them countless times (5 times this year alone to be exact), they never seem to disappoint. Following the release of their new album ‘20 Years [Forward Ever Backward Never]’, this set was filled with new reworks of many of their classic tracks as well as the Cosmic Gate tracks we know and love.
Following up this incredible performance was an absolutely legendary set from Ferry Corsten as he was doing a rare System F performance. This was a set I’ve personally been dying to see live. Ferry’s alias, System F is built around that classic trance sound and we got to hear a ton of those classic songs that trance was built upon. This set brought back a lot of fond memories and brought some feels as well. There’s nothing better than hearing the tracks that got you into a specific genre of music and Ferry did just that by playing tracks like ‘Out Of The Blue’ and his collaboration with Armin, ‘Exhale’.
Speaking of Armin van Buuren, he was up next for two hours of trance magic. I don’t think I’ve ever hear a crowd get as amped up as I did that night. The crowd in Mexico was as loud as can be and they cheered their hearts out when the man of the night stepped on stage! Right from the start, ASOT’s ring leader had the crowd jumping to the beat. He of course played crowd favorites like ‘Great Spirit’ and ‘Blah Blah Blah’, but he took it to another level with absolute trance bangers like Maurice West’s remix of ‘ResuRection’ and Richard Durand’s remix of ‘Wild Wild Son’. The king also blessed us with a couple unreleased tracks from his forthcoming album, ‘BALANCE’ — which are sure to be future anthems.
After those magical two hours, I hit the Road To 1000 Stage to close out my night with VII Crew members, John Askew and Will Atkinson. Both sets were everything we wanted and more with their amazing stage presence and ability to read the crowd knowing exactly what to play. It was a perfect way to end the night.
All good things come to an end and the party was over, but fear not because you can relive all of the Main Stage memories online on the ASOT Facebook Page.
