Guests of the Brooklyn Mirage Witnessed the Afterlife | #TBT

by The Freaks - Staff

With Electric Zoo having come and gone like the wind we needed to beat the Post-Labor Day Weekend blues. Luckily we were blessed with a stacked week of parties to bring us back to (after) life.

The Brooklyn Mirage hosted another edition of Tale Of Us’ acclaimed show, Afterlife.  The exceptional show takes us across the techno map with acts ranging from the likes of Tale Of Us to Ben Klock. Everything about this line up screamed perfection to any techno fan. Being hosted at NYC’s best venue, it was clear that this was the party to live your best life.

I started the night right with the German duo FJAAK. I saw these guys for the first time earlier this year when I was roaming around at a festival and I was blown away by how great their music was. It was a no brainer to see this duo again and I already knew they would not disappoint. The first 30 minutes was a bit slower than the usual FJAAK sound seeing them play more vocal and melodic tracks. But once they played their infamous remix of ‘Onslaught’, this german duo kicked it up a notch and destroyed the rest of their set. I’ve been into more of the 140 bpm and up techno sound lately, so this set hit my musical taste buds and I had such a great time during this one. If you ever get the chance to check out this duo I highly recommend it; you won’t be disappointed.

Techno? Techyes!

Next up is techno legend and vegan activist Chris Liebing. One thing I loved about this night was each DJ that took over the Great Hall built up the room properly for each other and it felt like the pace kept going faster the whole time. Liebing’s set was filled with heavy beats and melodic breaks that synced up perfectly with the visuals on display. This was without a doubt the best set of the night. Having seen Liebing a few times before, this was the heaviest I’ve seen him play. And while the crowd emptied a bit after the first hour, the fans that stayed for the entire length of this set were the real winners. Everything about this set was perfect to me. Chris Liebing brought his A-game to NYC and smashed it at afterlife.

I decided to keep the pace strong, so to close out my night, I decided to stay in Kings Hall and closed out with Ben Klock. After hearing my friends talk about Klock for so long, it was nice to finally experience a set by him for myself. Keeping the BPMs up like FJAAK and Chris Liebing, Ben went full throttle for the last two hours of the Afterlife event. He truly played to the mood of the crowd. I’m a fan now after this one and will be checking him out at Amsterdam Dance Event next month. If you’re looking for another quality techno artist, I would highly recommend checking out his music and DJ sets.

Music that will tantalize anyone’s tastes buds.

Ironically enough, I never got around to seeing Tale Of Us, even though this is their show. But this show to me was all about doing something different, not staying in the main room and exploring the musical talent that we were blessed with.

Afterlife yet again has blown our minds and it had everything we wanted in terms of talent, production and atmosphere. I’m sure to be back again next year if Afterlife decides to make its return a third year in a row!

For now, you can catch a few more shows at the Brooklyn Mirage until summer sees its own Afterlife — check out Paradise, Cityfox Transcend and Higher Ground
