All Hail The Silence – ‘City Lovers’ (Com Truise Remix)
The mightily moving ‘City Lovers’ from All Hail The Silence’s January-released debut studio album ‘‡’ is the track in the remix spotlight today. Its remixer is Oneida, NY-born synth/chillwave specialist Seth Haley — better known in the cooler margins of electronic music as Com Truise.
In many respects Truise’s treatment couldn’t be riffing off the eighties more if it was wearing a Walkman, painted electric pink and had shoulder pads the size of the Hollywood sign! The LA-based producer has though opted to replace a much of the original’s emotional lament-to-lift-rollercoaster with a more urgent, dramatic and club-like equalization.
Hammond organ lines fall across syncopated beats, whilst warm analogue bass offsets the broodily monochromatic tone of Com’s surrounding production. Throughout, Christian’s song teems with feels, as the ‘City Lovers’ moodsome backstory becomes apparent.
Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn – ‘Never Before’
Merging their signature sound with striding melodies and Jonathan Mendelsohn’s emotion-laden vocals, Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge draw inspiration from the harder styles to cook up a true masterpiece. With great vocals, a steadily building arrangement and a melody meant to excite listeners at every turn, this remix is engineered for plays at the world’s biggest stages.
Carnage x Prinze George – ‘Letting People Go’ (Diplo Remix)
Diplo has remixed Carnage’s latest single ‘Letting People Go’, one of the most poignant dance hits of 2019. The day Carnage dropped the record, Diplo reached out to him to rework the track and debuted the remix during his set at Coachella.
Diplo’s remix adds a steady, four-on-the-floor beat, Diplo delivers a bouncy, dance floor-ready version, while maintaining the emotional vocals of indie pop trio Prinze George. This delectable track is also paired with an equally as amazing music video.
DubVision vs Vigil – ‘Rescue Me’ (feat. Nino Lucarelli)
Coming to the aid of an arena near you, ‘Rescue Me’ offers a lifeline in the form of Nino Lucarelli partnering with the Dutch DubVision brothers and Russia’s Vigel. An EDM love song targeting that individual someone as well as inspiring a rousing group hug, the partnership produces an energetic feel-good factor that doesn’t forget the importance of seeking salvation. ‘Rescue Me’ reunites Lucarelli and DubVision from their prior track ‘Yesterday’.
Sevenn – ‘Loco Papi’
With the Armada Music follow up to the arena-grabbing ‘Lollipop’, Sevenn’s declaration that ‘Loco Papi’ represents “a really good time – that’s the vibe I’m trying to get across with this song”, is something of an understatement.
There’s a horn section taking you to an exotic destination, an insane-in-the-brain vocal urging you to join in with the madness, and a breakdown counting down to that cuckoo clock moment on the dancefloor when pandemonium ensues. A running guitar loop confirms the track’s preference for sun, sea and sand – not forgetting some pretty firm kicks guarding the party – and ‘Loco Papi’ is heavenly summing clubbing powered by a combination of jumping beans, itching power and wide smiles.
Giuseppe Ottaviani – ‘Colours’
Following his successive run of Beatport #1s, ‘Colours’ is the fourth of Giuseppe Ottaviani’s precursor salvo, blazing the trail to his new ‘Evolver’ artist album.
A piece of music that organically sprang to life during club sets, its most essential elements were live jammed instinctively by Ottaviani, becoming immediately supercharged by the thousands-strong crowd’s response.
