The Untz | 5 Artists we can’t wait to see at The Untz

by Alex TerraNova

Hey Untz Fans! Josh and Amber here! We’re counting down the days until the Mariposa Fairgrounds are transformed into the magical wonderland we call The Untz.  From June 1st to 3rd come get funky and weird with us.  We dropped a list of 5 that we can’t wait to see!
Caspa – Gary McCann or as we all know him “Caspa” is a dubstep/bass artist from London, UK. After his high-school basketball career was cut short due to an injury he decided to put his energy into music creation and man are we glad he made that switch. After his track “Bassbins” gained wide public attention he started his own music label focusing on dubstep and grime artists, and in 2004 Storm productions was born! He has headlined many big name festivals such Glastonbury and Global Gathering in the UK, Stereosonic in Australia, and Lollapalooza in the U.S. Just recently he moved to Denver Colorado and now us he will be blessing The Untz Festival with his breathtaking talent. With his grimy style and old school flare, it’s sure to be a bucket list set!

KOAN Sound – KOAN Sound is an electronic music production duo consisting of Will Weeks and Jim Bastow both hailing from Bristol, UK. They play a mix of Glitch-Hop, Drum and Bass, and Dubstep while citing bands such as Rage Against the Machine and Incubus as early influences. One thing I know for sure is that this will be a very eclectic set spanning many genres. In 2012 KOAN Sound supported Diplo, Skrillex, and many others on the Full Flex Express Tour. The Word Koan is defined as a puzzling, often paradoxical statement used in Zen Buddhism to aid in meditation and as a means of gaining spiritual enlightenment. With that being said I’m delighted to see what awareness and understanding we can gain from this set.

SUDS – Christian Sudweeks aka SUDS is born out of the smoke, fog, and low-end serenity of Humboldt’s redwood coast. SuDs has been making quite a name for himself among the bass community with his signature form of squishy, hard-hitting, and mind-melting bass music. Steadily on the grind since 2014 SuDs has earned himself slots alongside major acts such as Mike iLL, Minnesota, Thriftworks, and Stylust Beats. Being from Humboldt ourselves, we have seen him countless times at Whomp Wednesday, Arcata’s local weekly electronic music event at the Jambalaya, and we are more than thrilled to see him play at The Untz Festival this year.

Hypha – Aaron Brink aka Hypha is another Bass music producer from Humboldt’s Redwood coast. Spanning genres ranging from future bass to dubstep his unique style has made him a household name in the west coast bass scene. His artist name “Hypha” refers to a thread that branches from germinated spores into a complicated, radically expanding network of fine tubes that form the structural parts of a fungus, collectively known as the mycelium. We have personally seen Hypha throw down at countless local events with hard-hitting bass magic and can only imagine what he planning to play next month at the Untz festival.

Thriftworks – Jake Atlas better know as Thriftworks is a master of experimental EDM. A native of Berkley, CA Thriftworks continues to push the envelope with his unparalleled beat making style. With his endless supply of new material and classic tracks, I can guarantee that his set will include something for the most experienced Thriftworks fan down to the newcomers. Alongside his music he always makes sure his crowds are conscious and aware and makes sure to remind people why we do this. Love and appreciation.

We can’t wait to get grimy with you on the dusty floor!
