Bass producer VARI returns to Gud Vibrations, the label founded by NGHTMRE and SLANDER, with AUGUR, a five-track EP that blends futuristic sound design with influences from retro rave culture. Moving between trap, dubstep, and experimental bass, the release showcases VARI’s willingness to push electronic music into unexpected territory while keeping its focus on high-impact dancefloor energy.

Emerging from Tulsa, Oklahoma’s electronic music scene, VARI has developed a sound defined by experimentation and detailed production. His music draws from dubstep, hardwave, trap, drum and bass, and other bass-driven styles, bringing contrasting textures and rhythms together through an unpredictable approach to sound design.

AUGUR opens with “Atrium,” establishing an atmospheric setting through futuristic robotic synths and vocal chops. The track gradually builds before dropping into hard-hitting trap percussion, accented by crisp, rhythmic chimes. It sets the tone for an EP that balances intricate electronic details with forceful low-end production.

“Displace” follows with a melodic introduction that develops into a more aggressive groove. Frantic snare hits intensify the buildup before the track erupts into heavy bass and drums designed for maximum impact. The transition from its melodic opening to its powerful drop highlights the contrast that runs throughout the project.

On “Impulse,” fast-paced hi-hat patterns and punchy dubstep bass drive the production forward, while a commanding synth melody gives the track a strong central hook. The result is a high-energy cut that maintains its momentum through the final moments.

The penultimate track, “Vault,” takes a darker turn, combining trap with acid breaks and elements reminiscent of underground warehouse techno. Squelchy lead synths, crisp drum patterns, ominous stabs, laser-like effects, and crunchy sawtooth sequences create a gritty atmosphere inspired by the raw energy of 1990s rave culture.

Closing the EP, “Underflow” begins with mechanized soundscapes before building tension through intricate vocal chops and stuttering rhythms. Its evolving arrangement pushes toward an electrifying climax, bringing the project to a finish that reinforces its futuristic direction.

The EP features three lead singles released in sequence: “Displace,” “Impulse,” and “Underflow.” The tracks have received radio support from Alison Wonderland and ILLENIUM, helping introduce the project’s sound ahead of the full release.
