Jamz Supernova has released Dance Around The World, her debut compilation with independent record label Mr Bongo. Featuring 16 tracks spanning contemporary and archival sounds, the collection brings together music shaped by years of international travel, DJ performances, and connections with communities around the world.

For more than a decade, Jamz Supernova has championed music beyond the mainstream through her BBC Radio 6 Music show, Future Bounce label, and international DJ sets. With Dance Around The World, she channels that curiosity into a personal collection that explores the people, places, and cultural histories behind the music.

Developed from her Dance Around The World show and Bandcamp community, the compilation follows a journey from day to night. The Day selections emphasize live instrumentation, storytelling, and sunlit grooves, while the Night selections move toward club rhythms and dancefloor experimentation. Together, the two sides explore how music can reflect the changing energy of a place throughout the day.

“I picked all these places that I was inspired by, or places that I’ve been, where the music has really informed what I do,” Jamz Supernova explains. “It was the idea that when you travel, you get to experience both the day side of somewhere and the night side, and the music and the feeling can change so much between the two.”

The 16-track collection features Groundsound, SIMANGAVOLE & SOA RAVELO, Esa Williams, Oruã, Lenna Bahule, Célia Wa, and 15 15, alongside Catu Diosis & Neana, Jus Now, Evehive & Clementaum, and Mokotron. Jamz Supernova also appears alongside Sam Interface and Lateena on “Tan Toddy,” bringing her own collaborative work into the wider musical conversation.

Two previously released tracks offer contrasting perspectives on music from Colombia. Verito Asprilla’s “Quiero Ser Buena” delivers a vibrant reggaeton groove, reflecting an artist Jamz Supernova discovered through her engagement with the country’s Pacific coast music culture. Meanwhile, Brenda x Diva Cruz’s “Sin Africa” pairs club-focused production from Brenda with Diva Cruz’s commanding vocals, exploring African identity, colonial history, and Afro-Colombian experience. Jamz Supernova also played an A&R role in bringing the collaboration together.

Throughout Dance Around The World, music emerges as a form of celebration, resistance, and cultural memory. The compilation looks beyond familiar genre associations to highlight the breadth of sounds emerging from different communities, connecting local histories with contemporary musical expression.

That perspective is central to Jamz Supernova’s approach to the project. In the album’s liner notes, she reflects on the relationship between music, colonial history, and cultural identity.

“Each country and region explored within this compilation has used music as a form of resistance in response to colonialism… We can never forget how colonial history has shaped the world, but I’m also interested in how music moves us forward.”

To celebrate the release, Jamz Supernova will host a compilation listening session at Shai Space in Peckham on October 18. The event will include a conversation about the project, a short acoustic performance from contributing artist Lenna Bahule, and a signing.

The celebrations continue October 30 at The Jazz Cafe, where Jamz Supernova will present Dance Around The World alongside Diva Cruz, Esa Williams, and Samtheman. The event will spotlight music shaping dancefloors across Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond.

With Dance Around The World, Jamz Supernova offers more than a collection of tracks. The compilation reflects a decade of musical discovery and the relationships built through travel, radio, and the dancefloor, inviting listeners to experience places through the artists and communities that give their music meaning.

Dance Around The World is out now via Mr Bongo on vinyl, CD, and digital formats.
