Smoakland and SubDocta have joined forces on “Shakin’ TT’s,” a heavyweight dubstep collaboration that brings together two distinct strains of West Coast bass music for a properly dank trip into OG dubstep territory. Arriving September 25th via Bassrush Records, the single leans heavily into the womp, combining smoke-soaked ragga influence, wonky sound design, and a production style built squarely for the dancefloor.
“Shakin’ TT’s” moves forward with daze-inducing melodic lines as wobbly LFOs, trippy synth leads, and rumbling sawtooths lock into a deliberately unruly groove. Playful vocal touches cut through the haze before filthy, laser-backed accents push the track into heavier territory. The result balances heady atmosphere with serious low-end force, drawing from the formative language of dubstep while incorporating the psychedelic, bass-heavy sensibilities both artists have developed throughout their respective catalogs.
Speaking to the seamless process that led to the collaboration, SubDocta says, “Smoakland and I have been tight for a very long time. We’ve attempted making tracks together a ton in the past, but this one came together so naturally and organically that we knew we had something special. Very excited to get this one out in the wild!”
For Smoakland, the release adds another chapter to a run that has established the Bay Area duo as fixtures of the West Coast bass scene. Their sound draws from old-school dubstep, dirty Dutch influences, NorCal hip-hop, and cannabis culture. Since 2020, they have released four albums and collaborated with artists including Big Gigantic, Dirt Monkey, LEVEL UP, Kumarion, SIPPY, Mersiv, SuperAve., Sully, Ravenscoon, and Shlump.
The duo is also heading into a packed fall schedule with appearances at Lost Lands, Wakaan Festival, Gem & Jam, Puffcon, Dancefestopia, The Caverns, Exchange LA, Cyclops Cove, Mission Ballroom, and The Red Room. Those dates follow recent summer performances at Bass Canyon, Bonnaroo, Big Dub Music Festival, Meow Wolf, and Cyclops Island.
Meanwhile, SubDocta has spent nearly a decade refining his own strain of wonky bass music under the “West Coast Wobble” banner. He first broke through in 2017 with “2009 Was Tight,” earning support from major names across dance music before building a prolific catalog of EPs, singles, and a full-length album across some of the genre’s most respected labels.
His history with Bassrush Records dates back to 2019, when he teamed up with Thelem for “Clapback.” Since then, his live résumé has expanded to include sold-out tours with Ganja White Night, Excision, Riot Ten, Dirt Monkey, and Boogie T, as well as festival appearances at Lost Lands, Bass Canyon, Wakaan Fest, Dancefestopia, and Freaky Deaky.
SubDocta has also headlined three of his own tours since 2022, with support from artists including Zingara, Black Carl, and sfam. That experience has helped further establish the producer’s wonky, leftfield approach as a distinct part of the modern bass landscape.
“Shakin’ TT’s” ultimately feels like a natural meeting point between Smoakland’s smoke-heavy West Coast aesthetic and SubDocta’s unconventional approach to bass music. Pulling from the deeper roots of dubstep while embracing the playful and psychedelic edge that defines both artists, the collaboration delivers a low-end workout built for sound systems, festival fields, and late-night dancefloors alike.
