Devault returns to Insomniac Records with What I Came For, a two-track release that finds the Orange County producer leaning further into the club-focused sound that has shaped his latest creative chapter. Built around energetic house rhythms, hypnotic melodies, and sample-driven production, the release captures the range of an artist continuing to carve out his own space within contemporary dance music.
Over the past decade, Devault has developed a catalog defined by cinematic soundscapes, concept-driven songwriting, and a willingness to move between electronic genres without settling into one lane. His latest material reflects a deeper immersion into modern club culture, balancing functional dancefloor production with the hooks and emotional release that have become central to his sound.
The title track, “What I Came For,” takes a dreamy approach to house music, pairing a steady four-on-the-floor groove with vocals sampled from Shygirl’s “Honey,” originally featured on her debut album Nymph. The track’s ethereal vocal textures are transformed within Devault’s production, retaining the experimental character of the source material while taking on a more fluid, late-night house aesthetic.
“Keep Your Body Pumpin’,” meanwhile, pushes the release toward tougher club territory. Driven by a propulsive tech house rhythm and hypnotic melodic elements, the track is built for the dancefloor, adding a more direct and energetic counterpoint to the atmospheric qualities of the title track.
The new release follows Devault’s most recent outing on Insomniac Records, “Zero,” which arrived in February and has since surpassed 1.35 million streams. The single has also earned mixshow support from John Summit, Martin Garrix, Oliver Heldens, and more, further establishing the momentum behind the producer’s current era.
That momentum was already evident with “Feels Like Us,” which reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, climbed to No. 1 on Beatport’s Melodic House & Techno chart, and held the No. 1 position on SiriusXM’s BPM for nine consecutive weeks.
What I Came For arrives as Devault continues his 40-plus-date World Tour, bringing his evolving club sound to major festivals, venues, and headline shows across North America. Upcoming stops include EDC Orlando, Hollywood Palladium, Experts Only Festival, Experts Only at the Gorge, Breakaway, Seismic Dance Event, and Lights All Night, alongside headline appearances at The Magic Stick, Playground Rooftop, Sunbar, Celebrities, Blackbox, The Regency Ballroom, and The Fruit.
The tour’s first leg has already taken Devault to Electric Forest, Club Space, Lollapalooza, UNVRS, Das Energi, FVDED in the Park, and Electric Island, giving him plenty of opportunity to test the new material in front of live audiences.
For Devault, that road-tested approach was an important part of shaping the release.
“Both of these songs I’ve worked on and tested on tour for about 9 months now, and I’m so happy to finally get both of these out. I think they both highlight the sound I’ve really cemented in the club space, and both are staples in my sets right now. They are energetic, sample-based, and a true testament to where my sonic world has gone.”
With What I Came For, Devault continues to translate months of live testing into a sharper vision of his club sound, pairing experimental vocal textures with driving house and tech house production. It’s another step in an increasingly dancefloor-focused chapter for the producer, one that shows just how far his sonic world continues to expand.
