Following the release of “Twiggy” and ahead of this Thursday’s arrival of “Bottle,” Remi Wolf has announced her third studio album, Mud, due October 9 via Island Records. Spanning 11 tracks, the album expands on the world introduced by “Twiggy,” refining Wolf’s boundless musical imagination into a warmer, more spacious and deeply human collection without losing the adventurous spirit that has defined her work.
Mud emerged from a period of reflection after years of near-constant motion. Following an uninterrupted stretch of touring, writing and recording, Wolf began reconsidering not only what she wanted to say through her music, but how she wanted to create it.
The album began taking shape during early sessions in Nashville before finding its emotional center during a retreat to Big Bear with longtime collaborator Jared Solomon and a small circle of trusted friends, including Jack DeMeo, Jamie McLaughlin and Gigi Grombacher. Away from the usual pressures of the studio, the group spent their days writing songs, cooking family dinners and passing microphones around the kitchen as ideas developed organically.
Wolf eventually began referring to the group as a “family band,” a description that captures the collaborative spirit behind the record. That intimacy remained central as the sessions continued, with the group reuniting at Electric Lady Studios in New York before gathering one final time in Joshua Tree to complete the album.
Rather than building the record entirely through layers of studio production, the group leaned into live instrumentation and the chemistry of musicians playing together in the same room. Spontaneity was prioritized over perfection, with Wolf frequently taking a seat behind the drum kit as melodies, arrangements and lyrics evolved naturally.
The result is an earthy, lived-in sound centered on melody, storytelling and performances that retain the imperfections and emotional immediacy of the room in which they were created. For an artist known for her colorful sonic palette and unpredictable songwriting, Mud represents a shift toward restraint without sacrificing imagination.
“I feel like I’ve crossed into a new phase of life because of this album. I literally felt like I was covered in shit. And now, at the end of the album process, I feel so clean and clear. It has been a very cleansing record to make for me.”
That sense of renewal arrives at an important point in Wolf’s career. Following the acclaimed albums Juno and Big Ideas, she has established herself as one of contemporary pop’s most distinctive voices, building a devoted international audience through fearless songwriting, dynamic live performances and a singular visual and artistic identity.
Her career has taken her to major festivals including Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo, while she has also toured alongside Paramore, Lorde and Olivia Rodrigo. Earlier this year, Wolf expanded her creative résumé with her on-screen debut in Amazon Prime Video’s series Off Campus, which features multiple songs from her catalog alongside a cameo appearance from the artist in the premiere episode.
Her work has also earned recognition from outlets including Rolling Stone, NPR, Pitchfork, Variety, PAPER, Nylon, Billboard and The New York Times, while she has performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
With Mud, Remi Wolf enters a new creative phase built around collaboration, instinct and a renewed trust in the songwriting process. Instead of reaching for increasingly elaborate production, she allows the songs room to breathe, demonstrating that intimacy and simplicity can carry just as much weight as maximalism.
Mud arrives October 9 via Island Records.
