Bloc Party have unveiled “Pigwig,” the final single from their forthcoming album Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, arriving September 11 via newly formed label Contagious Music. The release will be available across standard and limited-edition vinyl, CD and digital formats, offering one final glimpse into the deeply personal story at the heart of the band’s next chapter.
Produced by legendary producer Trevor Horn, whose credits include Grace Jones, Pet Shop Boys and Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance unfolds as a chronological portrait of frontman Kele Okereke’s intoxicating experience of falling in love.
“Pigwig” sits within the album’s opening run of five songs, capturing the rush and vulnerability of falling hard for someone. As Okereke sings about “the moment I knew / that I’d been found,” the track becomes an intimate snapshot of the point when attraction turns into something much deeper.
“‘Pigwig’ is about the moment of realising that you have been hit by a very big love,” explains Okereke. “Almost as if it’s against your will. During our relationship Pigwig was my pet name, after the Beatrix Potter character – the partner of Pigling Bland – an inside joke that meant a lot to us at the time. Looking back this song is probably one of the sweetest on the album as it recalls a memory of a romantic seaside trip at the most magical point of our relationship.”
That sweetness, however, is fleeting. As Anatomy Of A Brief Romance progresses, the initial euphoria begins to give way to uncertainty. Doubts emerge, the relationship starts to fracture and an eventual catastrophe brings the romance crashing down.
The album then moves through the aftermath of that collapse, exploring heartbreak, loss and the difficult realization that something once deeply meaningful is no longer there. Ultimately, the story moves toward acceptance and healing, giving the record a narrative arc that mirrors the complicated progression of a real relationship.

With “Pigwig,” Bloc Party offer their most tender glimpse yet into Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, setting the stage for an album that places love, loss and emotional transformation at the center of the band’s latest work.
