The story of ALPHA 9 continues to evolve. The trance and progressive project from electronic music mainstay ARTY returns to Dreamstate Records with “Ascend,” the second chapter in a new musical saga that follows its protagonist as he rises toward a higher state of existence.
Built around an immersive world of cosmic mythology and trance-driven storytelling, ALPHA 9 is more than an alternate artist identity. The project centers on a highly classified bioengineered operative selected to become a messenger for cosmic trance, with each release expanding the character’s journey through a combination of music, narrative, and carefully constructed world-building.
“Ascend” captures the next stage of that evolution through a production that feels both cinematic and expansive. Guttural square waves establish the track’s darker foundation, while cosmic textures, soaring synth leads, and sweeping whooshes gradually build tension. The arrangement eventually pulls back into a piano-led breakdown, creating a moment of reflection before launching into a driving, sequenced finale.
That transition from restraint to propulsion gives “Ascend” its sense of forward motion. Rather than simply chasing the euphoric release associated with trance, ALPHA 9 uses the genre’s emotional architecture to make the track feel like another step in the protagonist’s transformation.
The new single follows “Dark Matter,” released in July as the opening chapter of this latest wave of ALPHA 9 releases. The track quickly picked up radio support from trance heavyweights including Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Andrew Rayel, AVIRA, Myni8hte, and DIM3NSION, signaling a strong early response from across the global trance community.
The narrative will continue to unfold alongside the music. Each single in the new ALPHA 9 series will be accompanied by a field note, presented as a journal-style entry that expands on the protagonist’s backstory and offers additional insight into the world behind the tracks.
For ARTY, the project provides a space to explore the more cinematic and narrative-driven possibilities of trance and progressive music. Under the ALPHA 9 identity, production becomes part of a larger fictional universe where melodic tension, futuristic sound design, and emotional progression work together to tell a story.
With “Ascend,” that story moves upward. The latest chapter arrives as ALPHA 9 prepares for upcoming performances at EDC Thailand and Dreamstate SoCal, bringing the project’s cosmic world-building from the studio to the festival stage.
