Fana Hues returns with a new creative chapter today, unveiling her latest EP, Catch n’ Release. Accompanied by a cinematic music video for “Red Wine Holiday,” directed by Dana Trippe, the project finds the acclaimed singer-songwriter embracing spontaneity, curiosity, and emotional freedom in what stands as her most adventurous release to date.
Inspired by the ritual of fishing—the patience of waiting, the exhilaration of the catch, and the wisdom of knowing when to let go—Catch n’ Release transforms an age-old practice into a metaphor for growth and self-trust. Throughout the EP, Fana Hues explores the idea of following instinct, pursuing what ignites something within, holding onto what feels genuine, and releasing what no longer serves you. Each song feels like another cast into open water, where uncertainty becomes an opportunity rather than something to fear.
The release marks Fana Hues‘ first solo project since 2024’s Moth, the concluding installment in a trilogy of deeply personal records centered on healing, intimacy, self-discovery, and transformation. While those projects turned inward, Catch n’ Release looks outward, replacing reflection with exploration and certainty with curiosity.
That shift gives the EP a fresh sense of momentum. Its songs retain the emotional vulnerability and rich musical textures that have become synonymous with Fana Hues, but they also introduce a lighter, more playful energy that expands her artistic palette without sacrificing depth. The result is a collection that feels both deeply personal and creatively uninhibited.
Over the past several years, Fana Hues has steadily emerged as one of contemporary R&B’s most compelling voices. Since releasing her debut album Hues in 2020, she has built an impressive catalog defined by intimate songwriting, sophisticated vocal performances, and genre-fluid production.
Her collaborations have further cemented her reputation, including work with Doechii on “Sunday’s Best” and appearances alongside Tyler, The Creator and Brent Faiyaz on “SWEET / I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE.” Beyond the studio, she has earned acclaim for captivating live performances while touring with Raveena, Snoh Aalegra, and Giveon, as well as completing a sold-out European headline tour.
Throughout her career, Fana Hues has balanced technical precision with emotional vulnerability, creating music that feels both intimate and expansive. That rare combination has earned the admiration of artists including Janelle Monáe, Sabrina Claudio, and Lucky Daye, while establishing her as one of the genre’s most distinctive and evolving voices.
With Catch n’ Release, Fana Hues steps confidently into unfamiliar waters. Rather than abandoning the emotional honesty that has defined her work, she reframes it through a lens of curiosity and possibility, creating an EP that celebrates instinct, embraces unpredictability, and reminds listeners that sometimes the greatest discoveries come from simply trusting where the current leads.
