The first time I saw RÜFÜS DU SOL was about three years ago at the Fillmore Charlotte’s Underground. Three years later, I got to see them play Fillmore Charlotte’s main room on their Americas 2020 Tour. Although they brought the same RÜFÜS DU SOL sound, since then they’ve released their third album “SOLACE” and have evolved tremendously. The Australian Trio is traveling with another Australian trio called Crooked Colours.
I always have to appreciate the way artists choose to curate their tour lineup. With something as intimate as a club show, it’s special to be able to control the energy and overall vibe of a crowd with your openers. It’s even more special as a listener when the energy flows and transitions well between each artist on a lineup. When RÜFÜS DU SOL picked Crooked Colours they knew exactly what they were doing. Bringing a distinct flavor of mellowed out alternative dance music, Crooked Colours is a delicious blend of emotion and rhythm. With live elements including guitar, drums, and piano their set felt like a jam session between friends.
RÜFÜS DU SOL has a special talent where they will sweep you off of your feet, make you feel like you’re the only person in the world, and transport you to universes far away all in a notes notice. One song will have you feeling like you’re peacefully floating through the depths of the gentle ocean. Another song will bring you to the middle of a windy desert where you can barely see five feet away from you. The next song could take you to the clouds where you feel weightless with no worries. Their music is a special kind of intoxicating magic, drowning you in a groove and lifting you with melodies.
